About

"I was brought up in the UK and USA, undertook my undergraduate medical degree in Leeds and was awarded bachelor of Medicine and bachelor of Surgery with Honours. I then undertook basic surgical training in Yorkshire and Queensland. Prior to specialist training, I was granted a Master of Philosophy from the University of Bradford for my research into scars. I continue to be involved in audit and research across my public and private practice in Perth. It’s important for me to bring understanding and expertise to every surgical procedure, and to keep learning and growing."

Research, Training and Contribution

Dr Rawlins works as a specialist plastic surgeon at Royal Perth Hospital, Fiona Stanley Hospital, and sees his private patients at St John of God Murdoch Hospital and St John of God Mount Lawley Hospital. In October 2019, Dr Rawlins was appointed Head of Department of Plastic Surgery at Royal Perth Hospital.

His specialist interest areas include burns reconstruction, hand trauma, complex lower limb trauma, and facial trauma. His elective specialist interests include skin cancer (and melanoma), head and neck / craniomaxillofacial reconstruction, abdominal wall and perineal reconstruction, scar revision, and the full remit of cosmetic surgery including common procedures such as breast augmentation, abdominoplasty and facelifts.

Dr Rawlins has a particular interest in reconstructive microsurgery and the use of ‘free flaps’ and ‘perforator flaps’ in his plastic surgery practice.

Dr Rawlins trains other surgeons in Perth and around the world. One of his ways to contribute to the plastic surgery community is to train surgeons in Tanzania - something he has been doing for ten years. In this way his knowledge and skills are passed on to colleagues across Tanzania and beyond.

The importance of bespoke plastic surgery

Dr Rawlins believes that you deserve a personalised approach to plastic surgery. As a surgeon, he values the importance of a bespoke surgical journey. It starts with listening to your concerns and expectations, and with clear communication about the details of various surgical procedures.

Plastic or cosmetic surgery is not a one-size-fits-all service. It’s about your body, and your unique and personal expectations when you consider surgery. Dr Rawlins’ patients can count on his excellent communication skills, on his ethical view on all aspects of cosmetic surgery.
