Meth Injuries

A burns specialists warn they are treating more people hurt in illegal drug laboratory explosions and the injuries are getting more severe.

Royal Perth Hospital treated about 50 patients in the past five years for burns associated with the clandestine production of methamphetamine, according to burns and plastic surgery consultant Jeremy Rawlins.

“This is an increase year on year and may be an under-estimate of the problem as patients do not necessarily provide all the details associated with their burns,” Dr Rawlins said, after reviewing cases with colleague Fiona Wood.
