What are injectables?

There are two main types of injectables: neurotoxins and dermal fillers. The difference is linked to your reason for anti-wrinkle treatment. Do you want to reverse existing wrinkles or prevent them from getting worse? Or do you want to improve the volume of your face, cheeks or lips?

Dermal fillers: Dermal fillers are a gel-based treatment. They are injected into your skin and are designed to create volume and reduce wrinkles. The most well-known fillers are dermal lip fillers.

Neurotoxins: Neurotoxin injections relax the muscles of your face. They are made from purified botulinum toxin. It’s injected in extremely small concentrations. By paralysing the muscles of your face, they can’t contract any more, and that’s why your wrinkles are less visible.

There are many types of dermal fillers, and the longevity and frequency of your filler treatment depends on which type and brand you have chosen.

Anti-wrinkle injections frequency

In general, anti-wrinkle injections last three to four months. The treatment’s longevity and frequency depend mainly on the dose and the area where we inject.

"Once we relax the muscles they contract less, and the fine lines and wrinkles will soften. To see the full effect you will need to wait seven to fourteen days. After three to four months the muscles will slowly regain their function. So repeat treatment is recommended to maintain your desired results."

Are injectables safe?

Dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections are considered to be very safe. However, there are a few situations when you should hold off or not have treatment.

"Pregnant women or women who are breastfeeding should postpone their treatment. When you have recently had a sinus infection, I would recommend holding off as well. Same for when your skin is inflamed; it is better to wait until the problem has resolved. People with bleeding disorders shouldn’t undergo treatment at all."
